This is from the Hamilton Traveler Vol 5#1 1942.

Hamilton never sold #1, but kept it in the vault, sold #2 and bought it back and displayed and traveled with it through the years. This is the story told by #2.

More on #1 & 2. Again from 1979 and one from 1945. Hamilton always held the watches, no Hamilton documents/publications talk about a donation of a gift in anyway shape or form to the NAWCC. I cannot find one NAWCC publication stating they received a gift/donation from the NAWCC, just publications from the NAWCC they were on loan. I would think this would have been big news. I find it very odd.

Correct, and that's my beef with the NAWCC and have told them so. Some post is coming from the NAWCC on #1 and #2, still waiting on it.

Growing up in Washington D.C. I got to visit the nawcc museum a handful of times and always found it to be a place of wonder and amazement.

I could’ve never imagined the behind the scenes actors running the joint were so blatantly deceptive and disrespectful to a lifetime member let alone an esteemed Hamilton scholar and diligent historian like Mark.

I had hoped that perhaps one day I’d find a watch that I’d be able to donate to support the museum that helped fuel my childhood curiosity for electric wristwatches out of respect for the institution, but if this is the way they treat their lifetime members and respected luminaries in the field, I may have to rethink my opinion and encourage others to do the same.

Thanks for bringing this to attention, after all sunlight is the best disinfectant. I’m interested to see what they spin next. Please, keep us updated!

Thanks Jett,

It's a sad situation.

Just remember if you donate something to the NAWCC, they can sell it later on, or display it for a while per your wishes and then store it in the basement. You can't dictate what they do. In an article written by Bruce Shawkey interviewing John Gelson, where he explains Hamilton Watch Co doanted 50K for a room dedicated to the Hamilton Collection, but that all changed in the 90's. Also discusses how #1 was on loan to the NAWCC. This article was written sometime in 1997.

So, according to NAWCC, Gelson had it wrong too?

I wish you folks would ask them, they will not provide me proof either. All documents provide all were owned by HWC, not NAWCC.

You raise a great point Mark, in your opinion what would be the best way for an interested forum member to pose such a question to the NAWCC?
