Re: Tiffany Wesley?
That's the third or fourth Tiffany Wesley I've seen. None of the ones I've seen have had a Tiffany signature in the caseback, all just had the usual Hamilton signature. Your watch is from the early 50s, and all of the other Tiffany Hamiltons from this time frame I've seen have had just the usual Ham...

I just received this... a Touraine retailed by Tiffany & Co. The records I have show just 11 were sold in 1943.

Solid 14K green gold Elgin
There's just something about the way green gold turns different colors over time. This ladies' Tonneau Engraved from the 1920s has acquired a deep orange patina with violet highlights.

Re: Looking for Lord Elgin
It is a Model 4802 which first appeared in the 1942 catalog. It was made through at least the end of the 1940s as I have had some with the Durapower logo on the dial. There are a couple of other dial variations which don't appear in the catalog, a two-tone bluish chrome finish and a silvered dial wi...

Re: Lady and the Tiger
Here's the last one I restored. These typically came with pale green gold plated hands. Many Elgin ladies models came with these same hands, so they are fairly easy to find on parts movements listed on eBay. The catalog illustration from 1929 show the watch with a simple, plain crown. Locating the c...

And the watch on the right is also noteworthy. The first generation Square with an engraved bezel is very rare.

Re: Hamilton 0 size prototype.
An 0-size movement is a little larger than Hamilton's 6/0-size movement used in its men's wristwatches during the 1920s.
The 992B movement is a 16 size pocket watch movement... much larger.

Platinum Masterpiece
This 23-jewel Masterpiece was in a large collection of wrist and pocket watches I bought. There were 5 or 6 platinum pocket watches included. In over 20 years of collecting, this is only the second platinum Hamilton I've owned. IMG_20211115_143843093_copy_811x811.jpg IMG_20211115_143943794_copy_710x...

Duncan 14K
Yesterday, Nookster and I were talking about 50s watches that you never see. Between the two of us, we've only seen two Duncans. The Duncan was featured in the 1954 and 1955 catalogs along with the equally rare Gregory, with a solid gold bracelet and priced at $400. Evidently the high price justifie...

Re: Elgin looking a litte bit like Hamilton’s Piping Rock: legit?
I have seen that watch before, it is not a factory-cased Elgin. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful watch and if your dad likes it, he should buy it. For a lot of collectors, the main consideration in adding to their collection is that it is a watch they really like, rather a than fully correct, factory-...

Re: Rutledge case finish
I believe the original strap was grey, not tapered, and had a double catch. If anyone has an original band, I have a person looking for one. I've had several 3/4" Hamilton straps and they've all been tapered to 5/8" on the buckle end. The platinum buckle on my Rutledge is 5/8. I've never seen a 3/4...

Re: Is this an original dial? Hamilton Raleigh Black enamel dial
No, that is a refinished dial. Somewhere along the way, a refinishing company created this "fantasy" dial print which doesn't resemble any of the dials used on the Raleigh. Hamilton had a black numeral dial for the Raleigh, but it looks like this: hralgoth.jpg Also note, this is not an inlaid enamel...

Re: Elgin ID Challenge
I don't think it is an Elgin or a Hamilton. Assuming the date on the dial is correct (I think it has been refinished), neither Elgin nor Hamilton had a model which looked like that in 1953. Both companies had center-seconds movements long before 1953. Elgin introduced one in 1932, and Hamilton intro...

Re: Hamilton Medallion movements 982M
It is a gold plug that is friction set into the bridge. It has a notch on the back which was used to rotate the plug so it would be properly aligned when viewed from the front. With a small wooden punch you can press it out. No doubt Hamilton had a technical document which noted the exact compositio...

Fortunately, I have a better dial.
Erskine's life and demise are well-documented. We'll see if I can find out anything about Corcoran.
Hamilton made 17 of these watches for Studebaker.
