Re: The story of the Hamilton Estoril and the Dateline A-578

Meanwhile, I can add two early Estorils - each with the model number 4053-3 Hamilton-Estoril_4053-3_numerals_vs_ZentRa-Savoy-Estoril_01_1366.jpg The first one is a Hamilton Estoril 4053-3. It came in a worn box: Hamilton-Estoril_4053-3_numerals_Box_01_1366.jpg Hamilton-Estoril_4053-3_numerals_Box_02...

Re: The story of the Hamilton Estoril and the Dateline A-578

Hi DrBung, Congratulations for your early Estoril! These manual wind/no date variations are popping up quite rarely. I’ll present two others in some days - have to wait for the arrival of one of them. For the time being here’s a nice ad I found in a British newspaper “Evening Standard” of May 01, 19...

Did the Hamilton intra-matic have a 'quick set' date change?
Hi "tictic",

no, unfortunately not.

Re: Hamilton intra-matic 93015-16 in 9K yellow gold

Why the Swiss used this weapon to mark certain gold alloys…. I don’t know. I've always wondered if there was any logic whatsoever to the images chosen for Swiss hallmarks (or any, for that matter). Do squirrels love 14k gold? Not that I know of. Nor have I ever seen a rampant bear hording 0.900 sil...

Hamilton intra-matic 93015-16 in 9K yellow gold

A Hamilton intra-matic was offered on ebay/Germany some days ago. What makes this intra-matic special: the case is in 9K (0.375%) yellow gold. It’s the first time I became aware of a Hamilton with factory original case in 9K. As a bonus the original Passport issued in March 1975 came with the watch:...

Hi afire,

yes, that's the same case! Interesting to see, that it was used to house other brands too.

Re: Elgin looking a litte bit like Hamilton’s Piping Rock: legit?

Hi statsman, no, that isn’t it. The watch you found has a straight “frame” and an enameled bezel. The watch in question has a “frame” with concave edges and a non-enameled bezel. The bezel is plain white gold with engraved numerals 1 - 12 painted black. Anyway: the fact, that none of the Elgin exper...

Elgin looking a litte bit like Hamilton’s Piping Rock: legit?

My father discovered an Elgin he likes. I don’t. Because it looks spurious to me - but I know just nothing about Elgins. OK, I don’t have permission of the seller to use photos - but I made a sketch of the watch: Elgin-Piping-Rock-Look.jpg The case is 14K white gold. Nothing inside the back except “...

Re: Hamilton Boxes

Susan, Thanks for your thoughts. You probably will be right: “Beetle” and Plaskon will be the same material. Here are another two Hamilton boxes you don’t see often: Candy-bar_long_green_Automatic_vs_short-green_01_1366.jpg Candy-bar_long_green_Automatic_vs_short-green_02_1366.jpg The shorter one al...
