I've noticed that Chrono 24 seems to have more of the vintage watches I'm looking for. More than ebay in many cases. I'm left wondering why. Does anyone have any experience buying there? They do have some sort of "Trusted Checkout" escrow payment option that, interestingly, screens out about 50% of the sellers.
Any insight is welcome!

Just took a look. I know the Hamilton market best and everything there was at least double the actual value. You have a much better chance of finding better offerings on ebay, IMO.

Thank you. Now that I think about it, this makes sense since there's less price competition.

Re: Chrono24 market?
I agree that the prices are much higher than seen on ebay - Chrono24 is more of a classified listing site than auction (I haven't seen any auction listings)
Majority seem to be listings for newer watches - I filter on "PreOwned / Used" to target the vintage
I've purchased a few watches from that site and used their secure checkout
I submitted offers and through a bit of negotiation, made a deal
The seller was from Europe and the transaction went smoothly
Hope that helps

Same with Gruens. My impression of Chrono24 is that most of the sellers there are among the most overpriced dealers out there. I recognize some of them. But, I have seen a decent deal or two there over the years. But overall, it doesn't seem to be a good place to look for bargains.vintagehamiltons wrote:I know the Hamilton market best and everything there was at least double the actual value.
Real men wear small watches.

Keep in mind that you're buying the "Trusted Checkout" from Chrono24. The cost to the buyer is 3.5% of the purchase price plus shipping costs.

They do have some nice vintage watches on chrono24, especially if you are looking for birth year watch as you can filter buy year date. I have to agree with the above comments though, usually way overpriced.
