I'm not a watchmaker, but can do some basic repairs. I like buying vintage tools.
Anyway, I picked up this vice recently and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it like is it a custom made tool or is it a commercially available tool?
The only markings on it are three initials "JAD" which might be the person that made it??

It's well made. Almost 9" long and almost 5 lbs.

With the knob, you can so precisely control the pressure that I've used it to pinch the pipe on tiny second hands so they fit better. I haven't found a tool that works better. My watchmaker uses fingernail clippers to do that, believe it or not. What do you guys use?

I believe this is a machinist's vice.

Hi and thanks. I think you are exactly right. I did a search on eBay and similar ones come up.
A recommended tool.
