Need advice on hand puller
Need advice on hand puller
I've read complaints on Amazon about some of the pullers. I'm just learning and practicing on a pocket watch. What puller and press for reinstalling hands are recommended?
Many thanks!

Re: Need advice on hand puller
I own a few types. I reach for these most often.

As far as putting back on the quality is not as important if you are using a plastic tip to put them back on. The rest of the tool is just a convenience.

Re: Need advice on hand puller
No problem. For install you can use one like this.https://www.esslinger.com/stella-euro-w ... ting-tool/
On a budget you can look for a cheaper one as the only thing that should touch the hands is the plastic tip so quality is not as important if you are not using it all the time.
Most times I use tweezers and a piece of pegwood to put them on. No press tool needed. Sometimes I use it but most times not necessary.

Re: Need advice on hand puller
I ordered this https://www.esslinger.com/bergeon-30637 ... d-remover/
It got the hour/min hands off but the claw is too thick to get under the second hand. Any suggestions? Can something be improvised?
Thank you

Re: Need advice on hand puller
I have the Bergeon hand puller and find it too big for the tiny sub second hands also.
Fortunately the sub second hands come off with the dial easily, you just have to work over an area that safely catches the tiny bugger. You may be able to use a piece of rodico pull it off.

Re: Need advice on hand puller
For sub second hands I remove it when I pull the dial. Most dials have feet and have set screws of some kind. Either around the edge of the movement or the back. 2 or 3 feet. Again there are exceptions to the rule. Use caution.
Then lift the dial and the sub second hand will come with it.

That worked. The second hand came off with the dial.
Thank you!
