A Harman One-Button Chronograph

#21 Post by Jon Clemens » Sat Jan 23, 2016 9:44 am

Among my chronographs this is the smallest, a tiny Harman-branded one-button...works fine. I don't know who made the movement. The case width is only 28mm, less crown.

I recently purchased this Harman triple date moon phase watch.

I can't find another example of this watch anywhere. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I wrote a history of the Harman Watch Company that was published in the Nov/Dec 2014 "Bulletin." My grandfather started the company in New York City in 1933. I have to admit that I have never seen this watch before. The company made many chronograph watches that bring fairly high prices on eBay. Strangely, the prices have no relationship to the intrinsic value. The chronograph movements are cheaply made as are the cases for these watches, unlike most of the other Harman movements and cases. All of the Harman movements were made in Switzerland. The movements without complications were made by A. Schild. The Harman Watch Company did not manufacture watches. It imported the movements and put them together with dials, hands and cases made by US companies mostly in the New York area. The watch you purchased is indeed beautiful. It appears to be in excellent condition and is unique in my experience in terms of complications and quality. Congratulations.

Thanks for the quick reply, Jack! I tried to send you a message for the article link, but I'm new to this forum and I don't have message privileges yet. Yes, this watch is even more beautiful in person! Again, thanks for the feedback and I'll shoot you a message when I am able to.
