Timex - Black Max Project

#1 Post by JerseyMo » Tue Jan 23, 2018 5:56 am

The Black Max is a definite 'grail watch' among vintage Timex collectors. Recently I was fortunate to get in one that looks to be unworn new old stock. :D

Here is the watch as it is now and I'll be posting pics along the way of getting it back to working order.

yeah, I guess they do find me. But, I did spot this in a pic that had 59 other watches in it!

initial tasks of disassembly and clean up have begun. Not sure what the gunk was on the case but, with the use of some solvents and light buffing it looks to have come off.
The strap has also been cleaned with nothing more than soapy water.
Next will be to service the movement. Stay toned.

Upon inspection of the movement I noticed the balance was somewhat loose and the pallet fork had over banked.
Simply backing off the end cap allowed me to re position the fork and once the cap was screwed back down, off she went.
Some fresh lube to the pivots and the whole thing went back together just fine.
The Black Max is ready to ride once more!
