Heritage Auctions... Anyone get any watches?

#1 Post by cj415 » Wed Oct 24, 2018 4:38 pm

Did anyone pick up any of the nice Hamiltons that sold at Heritage today?

Some went a went a bit high and some were good, solid prices. Overall, a nice selection.

You'll need to sign up for a free account to see the final hammer prices, but it's very interesting.

Some highs:
Wilkinson: $10,000
Altair: $4,750

Some good prices:
Byrd: $4,000
K-475: $2,000
Prototypes: $1,062

Other notable items: A complete set of Explorer Series, a White Gold Ventura, a couple of solid gold Pacers, Several nice Ovals (GF and 14k), a Flintridge, a Glenn Curtiss, a Captain Rice / Floyd Bennett. Great stuff!

I got the Transcon B, white Ventrua diamond dial, Titan iv-b, a sherwood, solid Pacer, Andrews, Byrd and Van Horn diamond dial. There were some great deals there

I’m told more stuff to come in the upcoming months. I bid on every watch, but went conservative on most of them, because I always forget about the auction fees in addition to the sales price. You get caught up.

The Sherwood automatic was a steal, I still sell those in the low 2000’s. The k-475, well, we all know that was low as well as the solid sherwood M for like 500 bucks.

Looks like there is some brassing on the lugs — that might explain the low price?

I wonder whose collection those came from? There were some astonishing rarities, and even more astonishing bargains among them.

I called today to follow up on my invoice, this was my first purchase.

The woman I spoke with, made the comment the Tildon was a true bargain at the price. I said looking at the lot it appeared to be soft, as a question to her. She responded that was her observation the jewelry market as a whole over the last 18 months has gone softer. To look at the Tildon at $525, the Reardon cld that is seen at least a dozen times a year on eBay went for more? It does not make sense?

I was hoping to nab the Sir Echo with the Sherwood dial but it sold for a bit more than I was willing to pay. I was also quite interested in the K-475 but decided not to bid as there was some wear to the dial and case.

I used the sale price of the K-475 to negotiate with a seller of a K-475 that was in better condition on eBay and bought the watch for $1900! That was with the 10% discount that is being offered today. Quite happy with that purchase! :D

The market is super soft in watches, except Rolex and Omega. All other brands are soft. I have picked up a few non Hamilton's at pre internet prices.
