Dixon dial

#1 Post by bbm744 » Thu Jul 12, 2018 12:34 pm

I bought this Hamilton Dixon on ebay just for a project to see if I could get it cleaned up and running. When it arrived I looked closely at the dial and could not find a picture of one like it. This one has a round sub second markers and all I have been able to find have a rectangular marking. The watch has dedication engraving of 1935 which fits the production dates , but the 987A movement dates to 1944. I know that movements are often replaced and I probably have a correct date one to replace it. The dial does not look like it has been refinished so I guess my question was there production variations of this sort? Also do the hands look correct for the a 1935 Dixon?
Thanks for any input.

Pictures aren't loading, but likely the wrong dial. Dixon models have a rectangular sub-seconds.

I don't know why they didn't load the first time, but here it is , the Dixon with a round sub second dial.

As Tom said, the dial looks like it was refinished (without the correct dies) long ago.

Definitely refinished, and not at all correctly. International Dial could put it right again.

Both hands are incorrect. Not only do they not match, the hour hand is too long and the minute hand is too short.

Thanks for the information. I'll get it running and try to find correct hands, but will probably leave the dial as is. It's still a fun project and I only have $35 in it.
