Hamilton Electronic Starts and Stops

#1 Post by atlantic965 » Tue Nov 14, 2017 10:58 am

I own a heirloom Hamilton Electronic that starts then stops. I know with mechanical watches they need cleaning but what about the Electronic ones. My understanding these Electronics hail from when Hamilton was bought by the SWISS. What could be wrong. I hope repairable?. Hand moves when you shake the watch, runs for 20 seconds then stops.

I own several of these and many have had that issue

Easiest thing to try is change the battery, if that doesn't work then somehow the power isn't transferring to the movement

It's been very difficult to find shops to work on them; the cost is high and you end up having a lot of funds tied up in the watch that may not be worth anywhere near the amount
In your case, being a family item, it may be worth it

What I've done in most cases is find a running donor watch and swap out the movement - most watch shops should be able to do this for a small(ish) fee

Luckily, Hamilton only used 3 to 4 different electronic movements (645, 683, 701, 702) - I've had pretty good luck swapping them out and then having a watch to enjoy

Hope that helps
Todd

Post a few pics of the watch if you can - will help identify the movement
