An amazing find, Mark! Your Hamilton exploits would make a great article all by themselves. As a researcher, this is the type of stuff that gets me excited, almost as much as the watches themselves. I can't wait to see the article that will come of this, and more revelations from this cache of company documents. Great going!

Named after Otis Bryan, the TWA pilot.
Which obviously trumped the Director of Style's (H.E. Vermot's) proposal that Hamilton's version of the Reverso be named the "DUO-PLEX".

I note with interest that Henri Edmond Vermot was accredited in 1954 as the inventor of, "....an improved winding stem for watches. The object of the invention is to provide a one piece winding stem which may be held to permit the crown to be assembled or removed without the use of special tools." Vindication is sweet!

I have been saying for years that rumors of lawsuits between Hamilton and JLC make no sense because of the acknowledgement of the US patent on the Reverso case.

Thank you Mark for finding these “smoking gun” documents showing the amicable relationship between these giants of horology.

It's also worth remembering that in the original announcement Hamilton sent to the trade on July 15, 1938, they wrote that "it employs a 'reverso' principle.' If they had appropriated the design without permission I'm sure they would never have used the Reverso name so blatantly!

I quoted the announcement in my book 20 years ago.

Bryan found the blue document, I found the later long one. Still more to come.

I wonder where this watch of mine comes into play in the REVERSO saga?
