Well, this “coffin type box” (reminds me a little bit of a coffin) still was shown in the 1935 catalog, page 4:

So I assume, this coffin box still was available in 1935. Maybe this box really would a good candidate for a Putnam.

Martin
Someone once said if the horse is dead, dismount. I'm not quite ready to dismount yet. Ok Martin, the box you've pictured appears to be green in colour, does the picture I've just posted below in blue the same vintage and perhaps be suitable for a Putnam or another early to mid 1930s mens wristwatch?

And while I'm still riding, what would the appropriate box for a Romanesque S be?

Darn-it, I'm determined to find boxes for most of my collection one day! :x

Hi Patrick,

you aren't beating a dead horse. I liked to know also, when the "blue coffin" has been made - but I'm only a rookie when it comes to Hamiltons - no expert.

I guess (!!!!) the blue box was made between 1935 and 1938 -but that is just a hunch. My assumption:
the green coffin has a ribbon with "Hamilton" inside the lid, while the blue coffin has the normal Hamilton crest inside the lid (like the ivory plastic boxes) plus a "HAMILTON" sticker outside on the base. So, maybe an intermediate version? I don't know.

regarding the Romanesque S: no idea, what type of boxes were used for the Romanesque. Actually, the only thing I know about Romanesque is: Hamilton used the brand for the very first time in commerce on 18. February 1960.

Best regards

Martin

I recall Martin posting his Neil with the inner and outer boxes back in April and I was going to post mine too. Well, 5 months later, here it is.

Well, I have a few boxes of NOS watches, there is another drawer of electric's and 60's stuff.
All have matching case and movement numbers. I love collecting these, as if you think about it, how can someone preserve these for all those years.
Otis, Howard, Custer and Whitney are the top four in there.

You know you have an over-the-top collection when your boxes are alphabetized. ;)
