I am wondering if the guarantee affixed to the bottom of hamilton boxes that include a "watch no." and "case number" can identify the type of watch the box came with. Would the watch number refer to the movement serial number perhaps? or is there no relation to the movement and/or model with these two numbers?

I recently picked up the following box. Seems there are slight variations to this design.

Very much earlier in this thread I had questions about whether my Putnam belonged in the square or rounded corner version of the early blue boxes. (Square corner came earlier than the round corner variant.)

This *might* be the answer for that, as well as the Grant and Webster:

I say might, because this is a jeweler ad, not a Hamilton ad. I've learned that the jewelers used their own independent illustrations or photos, not sourced from Hamilton, and they sometimes took. . .well. . .liberties. I think they have with the bands in this ad, for instance. . . .

You're onto something here. I think the illustration is too close to your actual box that you previously posted that IMHO one could conclude which came first (square) and the square version is a good match for the Putnam that you (and I) inquired about some time ago.

I've seen the '38 catalog pages that show the long Ivory boxes, but not the short ones. My Watson fits this one perfect, hoping it would be correct.
Anyone know otherwise?
