Hamilton Cushion B with a 979-F movement?

#1 Post by amplifiedtenacity » Sun Aug 21, 2016 7:46 pm

Just won this auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MENS-HAMILTON-W ... 2338615038

Pretty new to collecting Hamiltons. I really like the pre-1940s styles. This looks like a Cushion B to me - did I ID it correctly? From what I've read, this should have a 987 movement if it's a Cushion B or a 986 or 986A if it's an original Cushion. Any chance a 979-F movement could be original to the watch?

How did I do on price? I didn't see too many of these auctioned recently, so I wasn't sure on precedent.

Welcome to the forum.

According to Bruce Shawkey's new book the Cushion B was produced with a 979. Based on the eBay listing serial number I cross referenced it with the Hamilton watch reference page elsewhere on this forum that has production serial numbers and it was a match.

Appears to be a legit Cushion B, congrats. Others more experienced on this forum could confirm.

Hope this helps you. As you know, lots of Cushion B's were made, not a lot with a 979. Congrats!!!
