Hi all and Happy New Year.

Any thoughts on this one? I believe it to be a 1968 Hamilton Lancaster FF given the number of diamonds (24) and automatic mechanism. The earlier Lancaster G had 32 diamonds and a manually wound mechanism. The dial could have been refinished at some point as I haven’t seen any other examples with a black dial and thinomatic marking, though the watch has a grade 626 movement and the lettering seems accurate/sharp and would be difficult to refinish given the size of the dial so I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that the dial hasn’t been refinished.

Your dial has been refinished. The printing is a little thick and irregular... it lacks the razor sharp printing you would normally see on an original dial.

Your watch is indeed a Lord Lancaster FF. Rare watch, I think I have seen only one other example.

Thanks for the reply.

Any thoughts on the likelihood of ID having the correct die for dial refinishing given the rarity of the watch?

The only parts of the dial that are printed are the Hamilton name and logo. Many watches from that era use that same small name and logo, so International Dial likely has the correct print. Send a printout of the correct dial from the catalog, it may help them choose the correct size.

@nreisenberg

If the inside of the case back isn't marked Hamilton, this may be a watch that a jeweler created with a jobber case and it won't have a model name since they are identified by the case.

Hamilton would say no since it didn't come from their factory like that. Again if the case back isn't marked Hamilton inside. The dial/hands/movement are Hamilton.
