Should I get it cleaned and somewhat restored as far as the appearance is concerned? The internal parts seem to be just fine.

It does not look like it has a crystal fitted, which means the internals will be dirty? Even if it does have a crystal, and even if it seems to be running ok now, it is not a good idea to run a vintage watch for long periods if it hasn't been serviced. It may run ok for a while, but old encrusted lubricants and dirt will drastically increase wear on the delicate components inside.

Appearance-wise, it's a matter of personal taste. I clean and polish up the case/crown, fit a new glass crystal and if needed send the dial and hands to ID for refinishing if I can't clean them up enough.

Your case looks to have a fair amount of brassing on the lugs, so not sure how much it would be worth spending. If it's a keeper for you anyway, then fine.

Hello, I'm new here.

I have an old piece that I've been browsing catalogs for weeks now trying to identify. I've also started several threads on r/watches, but to no avail.

It was my grandfathers, and I imagine it was purchased in the 60's or early 70's.

Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

I have an elderly lifelong friend who asked me to identify this watch which was her mother's. This is absolutely out of my wheelhouse. I went through the catalog and most similar I could find was the J-6 in 1950 but I have no idea what I am doing. Any help would be appreciated and it is for an awesome lady. If I need to go to a jewelry store to get the back open for a picture, let me know. The band and such are not original per her information. Thanks for much in advance!

Yes, please do get the case opened! We need a picture of the movement and one of the inside of the case back. I hope we'll be able to help then.

And, welcome to the forum!
