Looking for help identifying a watch

#1 Post by coopsterdude » Fri Apr 06, 2018 5:28 am

Hello all.

Newby here - wonderful forum and I've lost nearly a whole day just looking through it trying to identify a watch!

My Dad recently passed away and looking through his watch collection I discovered an old Hamilton watch which a dim distant memory of my childhood recalls, but don't remember seeing him wear recently. It may even have been one of my Grandfathers. It looked in quite a sorry state (still does!), but a tad of coaxing and it's running like a dream now and keeping perfect time.

The 'H' icon suggests to me it's post 1960 but looking through the catalogue I'm finding lots that look similar (particularly Thinline from 1964-1966 - although it's not that thin a watch), but I'm really struggling to find any with 21 Jewel movements which is in this. Whilst it's a nice classy looking timepiece, I can't see my ever wearing this watch as it's a bit small for my wrist but would make a nice addition to my collection (particularly as I don't have a Hamilton in it yet!) and 'm planning to have it refurbed as a memory to my Dad. Any help with identification and history would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty confident that the little piece of strap left on it is not original - it would actually look really nice with a leather strap. Whilst it's made to look like a round watch you can see that the shoulders are slightly bulkier starting to square the shape of the case off a little.

It may have been purchased in either the US or Europe - Whilst we live in the UK my father was doing quite a bit of business in the US during the late 60's and 70's and travelled back and forth quite a lot.

We have found many similar models but I don't think they appear in the regular catalogs. We have a few images from what may be European catalogs. Does the case back have any numbers similar to the format in this catalog image? Also, what is the case material?

For some reason your image isn't displaying for me - getting a '3rd party hosting disabled' error.

Pretty confident the case is gold - not sure what k - colour wise I'd guess at 14k

Here is the back of the case - the engraving is very worn, but the number that I can see might be 63003-4

There is a similar example in all stainless with the number 63009-3. As far as we can tell, these are simply called Pan Europ.

Thank you. That does look near enough identical - and does look better with a leather strap!
