Hello everybody, I've just registered to the forum and I was hoping that someone could help me with a pocked watch I have inherited. It's a vintage German silver watch. I know it's German because of the quality control stamps inside the casing, please see the photograph. It is an emperors crown + half moon so it is made after 1884. It is also stamped silver, 0.800. Above this silver mark is another stamp, probably a makers mark in the shape of a diamond. However, I can't make anymore of it. Below the silver stamp is another mark but it is also very tiny.

Furthermore, there is a something of a serial number, 38997.1 with the number 8 below it. It can all be seen on the photo. The dial plate is quite nice and probably there is a gold dial (not sure). It has a main hourly dial with a smal, dial plate below it for the specific seconds. It is a winding mechanisme. This can be done with the thing on top of the watch. If one needs to reset de dials, then there is a small button beside it that needs to be pressed.

Of course it's helpful if I could open it up and show you the mechanisme itself. Problem, I'am not an expert and I do not know how to. So my hope is that someone could give me some additional info on the watch. Or maybe some tips about German maker marks that I could use. Or some help in opening it up.

I would think there would be a lip or crevice on the inner cover to open it.
My only comment is that I wouldn't assume that the watch itself is German just based on the hallmarks. It wouldn't have been uncommon for Swiss made watches to be cased in Germany.

I've been able to open the cover to the movement of the watch. First I've found that the serial numbers match so thats nice.
Second, there is a mark on the movement that states: oranje with a crown in the middle. So probably Dutch made?

I've also found a picture of the movement already online on ebay:

So, is this enough to track down te maker of the watch.
