Waltham Appraisal thoughts

#1 Post by LJRice » Tue Aug 02, 2016 1:04 pm

So, I've got this old watch possibly engraved HH, which has no sentimental value. I got to yacking with someone and they showed interest in buying it but I have no idea what it might be worth. It is a 1908 Hunter, from what I can gather, 23 jewel, 5 adjusted positions, SN 18084992. I was told many years ago not to wind it, and as such I seem to recall this was because it wasn't functioning. If it had any family connection I would go ahead and get it repaired. Or if it would up the value a lot, LOL.

Any opinions are appreciated.

Thank you.

Thank you for the info. So, does anyone know the approximate weight in gold for one of these? I hardly feel like gutting it to weigh it.I don't want to try and screw anybody on price nor get screwed, LOL.

You really need to weigh it. As expensive as gold is these days weigh it. If you can't take it apart we can try to give you instructions if you feel up to the task. That or take it to a local watchmaker.

Well, I'm not sure whether I'm up to it or not, but if you give me instructions I'd have a better idea, LOL.

The movment will come out the front of the case, to do so you
remove the two large screws from the movement, pop off the bezel ring
push opposite to the crown at a slight angle.

reverse to reinstall...

Thank you for the instructions! I hate to see it sell for gold, such a pretty little thing. But I guess it'll give me a reasonable price to offer in case someone wants to buy it as a collector, maybe even have it repaired.

the value of the gold will at least give you a starting point. to determine its potential sale price you can search recent sold sales on eBay.
be sure to focus on just Waltham 23 Jewel.
