Here’s a Jewel Series Waltham movement in a Duro case. It’s similar in design to the watch that I’ve been doing the lug work on.
The dial is copper with white tracks and has blue numbers that match the color of the hands.
The movement is a 15j Sapphire grade from 1933.
The 1898 model Walthan 6/0 hunter movements came with 7, 15 and 17 jewels. The 7j was grade 561, the 15j came in 565, Special, Sapphire and AmWCo grades and the 17j came in 567, Ruby, Riverside and Diamond grades. The NAWCC Gray Book data has some exceptions to this but I can’t tell if they’re real or mistakes. The Jewel Series continued after the model 1898 was converted to positive set in 1937 with the 17j Ruby and the 21j Emerald with a jeweled main wheel. With almost 50 years of production there is plenty of fertile ground for collecting.
