Waltham Depollier KHAKI Trench Watch Restoration Project

#1 Post by Literustyfan » Tue Aug 01, 2017 7:13 am

Hey guys!

I bought this Depollier KHAKI Trench Watch last week, currently working on the restoration.

Very desirable model, swivel lugs with the crown at the 12 o'clock position.

This one still has the factory original "KHAKI" signed sterling silver crown.

This one is in VERY BAD condition!

Looks like somebody decided to take a swim in some saltwater before they took their watch off.

A LOT of new parts will have to be used, the rust damage is obviously quite extensive.

Somebody over the years made a few incorrect changes too, those will also be put back to 100% correct.

A lot of the required work has already been done.

100% of the rust must be removed from every section of the case or flakes could get into the movement and cause problems down the road.

Wish me luck!!!

I would bet it is going to come out just fine. :D

It is all back together now!

The original movement simply had to be replaced due to the extensive saltwater damage.

I used the exact same grade movement with 7 jewels, new mainspring too.

I did my best to preserve the original blackened sterling silver finish but the rust damage was worse than I though once all taken apart.

ALL of the rust had to be removed or rust flakes and particles could get into the movement causing more problems down the road.

New stem and inner sleeve on the crown tube (more rust).

I had to replace the dial and the hands, put it back to 100% correct, just as it was 100 years ago.

Another piece of American history SAVED!!!

The movement still needs to be tested for a couple of days but the numbers are looking great so far.

Looks fantastic.
You could list the other movement on eBay and just add needs some WD-40 to the description. Lol
Seriously though. Beautiful watch.

Thank you!

I really had a lot of fun working on this one, but it was challenging at times.
