#1 Post by Alfonso » Wed Apr 04, 2018 3:03 pm

Hello All I am new here and to collecting watches I have purchased a few pocket watches to get my feet wet this one is my First.
Its a Hamilton 971 Railroad with a 14k Solid Gold Hunter Case. I love this watch and have Purchased a Elgin of similar makeup. I hope to learn and share more as I continue to add to my new collecting interest. Any and all input is appreciated.

That is a beautiful watch, and in 14K gold no less.

The serial number indicates it went to the Finishing Department on May 12, 1904.

Thanks for the welcome and info I just purchased a 991 to join the ranks of my 971. :D I'll post a separate thread for that one.

What a beautiful movement and an awesome case! If you did not know already, your case was made by the Dubois Watch Case Co. They were one of the better case companies and always made quality cases. Just one sign of the quality in this case is the hinges - made with five tube segments rather than the usual three. What a great start you have made!

I was told by someone else it was a Dubois case but that was all. This is good info you shared about the quality and hinges, much appreciated.
