R.W. Co. Rockford 17 jewel with Maiden Lane Face

#1 Post by xhcx717 » Sat Mar 10, 2018 1:20 pm

Good Afternoon,
Wasn't sure if anyone could supply more information on this watch as far as why / value? Serial number is generating as a 1909-1910 Rockford, but im perplexed on why it says Maiden Lane when I know that names is synonymous with Seth Thomas. Any information would be appreciated!

Hi,

At one point in Rockford's history, they occupied the address at 11 Maiden Lane, NY.
Maiden Lane was a hopping watch distict. Many, many watch companies had an address on Maiden lane at some point in time.
I would imagine Rockford had dials printed to reflect this status and possibly to sell in their shop.

Thanks for the reply ... I've been trying to search for a comparable watch with similar markings and come up short every time. Am I right to assume that this is a rarer watch due to the Maiden Lane face? Any idea as to how long they may have occupied this address and what the value might be? I know i'm throwing out a lot of question; just tying to learn more.

Thanks again,

Before I made that assumption, I'd make sure the dial feet haven't been altered to fit your movement.
Second, I'd make certain the dial didn't fit a Seth Thomas movement.

"Any idea as to how long they may have occupied this address and what the value might be? "

I don't have that answer. I do know it would most likely require many hours of online searching to find and compile bits and pieces of info.
The NAWCC- National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors would be a really good place to search for info and to ask
questions regarding Rockford pocketwatches and pocketwatches in general.

Best of luck with your quest!
