Difficult to tell without photos from the inside, but I would not go with a 40s watch. To me this looks more like a 50s watch, most likely first half.

The case style suggests 60s to me. That's all I've got.

Tom, yes it does, but there are a few early exapmles from around 1950 with this style already. The dial says SWITZERLAND at the bottom and Gruen changed this to SWISS end of 1955. So this should be a 1950-1955 watch. As said, a view of the insde of the back and the movement would tell us more.

I checked the database of my watches and I think i have the same or at least a very similar model with a white dial. Different hands but other than that very similar and slightly higher serial number. I dated it to 1957/58, but this was some time ago when i was not yet as experienced with Gruens as today. May be i should have a check with the real watch tonight. It has a 480SS movement, that is all I can add for now.

Are the radium dots on the dial, or embedded in the crystal?

I have a ladies, non-auto 210ss, late 40's-early 50's I believe, case # 55476 D with a similar case style.
I would guess early 50's also for poster's watch.
