18K White Gold Quadron

#1 Post by slinfiniti » Wed Feb 17, 2016 7:55 am

I need Gruen experts advice. I picked this treasure up at an obscure auction in New Hampshire. I have taken some close up pics and want to know if the entire bezel was "antiqued" with black accents in the engraved relief areas. The case sides even had some engraved designs.

I would like to know your thoughts before I finish putting it together.

This is a close up on the completed watch with crystal installed. I have never seen another Quadron like this, I would love to hear your thoughts

Brian, it's 18k cut-corner cousin says hello.

There are two things going on with both of these cases. The lug-to-lug enamel is legit chamleve, i.e., vitreous enamel (or similar) inlaid in an engraved void.
As for the sides, it's less clear. My watch had paint remnants, so I think there probably was originally black accenting in the engraved sides of the bezel. I've had others with this type of engraving that had paint sunk into the engravings as well.

I finally received my watch back from its minor restoration. International Dial completed the dial refinish and Tomas Garcia finished the COA.

Solid 18 Karat White Gold
Beautiful black enameled bezel
Delicate engraved floral motif decorates the case back

I hope you enjoy as much as I do. This is a real treasure from a bygone era.

Stunning Quadron you have there! I would say the Quadron and the 50th anniversary pentagon would be considered the cream of the crop when it comes to early Gruen's.
