How often should our watches be wound?

#1 Post by Bayleybird » Tue Jan 26, 2016 2:10 pm

I was once told to wind my serviced watches once a month. Have no idea about the unserviced ones...
Does anyone have any theories about this subject?

Going to ask on Hamilton forum as well. :)

Hello Bayleybird,

Regarding your serviced watches: Depending on what kind of oil was used at the time of servicing, winding them once a month is better than not winding them at all. Most modern synthetic oils will not gum up. If modern oil was used you should be good.

Regarding your UN-serviced watches: Do not wind until they have been cleaned and serviced as winding with contaminants present could cause unexpected wear to the train gears or any part of the movement while the watch is in operation.
