This box is registred under patent number US2157990 and was filed April 25, 1936, some 6 months after the 311 Curvex was launched. As inventor Eugine Lux is indicated who also did watch boxes for Bulova as I found through a patent search. Don't know anything else about Eugene Lux though.

The box Mike is showing in his 1937 ad is different from the patented one in having a different base and also it doesn't have the snap fastener. Haven't found a patent for that one (so far).

Very cool! Guess that is a box of history that you have dug up.
