latest acquisition

#1 Post by Tank » Thu Apr 19, 2018 5:40 pm

This came in the mail yesterday and I was quite surprised to see how large it was. 35mm isn't exactly huge, but ad in those lugs and it has a pretty big footprint for a slim vintage dress watch.

It's 420 movement and the style number is 639 and in very good condition. I'm very happy with it.
I believe it dates to 1949, but I haven't been able to find it in any advertisement.

Definitely a stunning watch, congratulations!
I share you observation that it seem not to have been advertised, I do also not own an advertisement showing it, and believe me, I have many...
And I agree with you that this watch is from 1949 or 1950.

Nice!

Thanks Barney, I had to take a take a Gruen family photo for reference. My Gruen collection is not only growing in numbers, apparently in size as well.

I noticed that it is in the rectangular section. And with your nickname it implied that a tank were the one missing. Last year my christmas present was the "Imperial Tank", I love that watch and am wearing it every day since.

If there's enough room for a whole "6" to be under the sub-seconds, it's bound to be a pretty good sized watch.
Real men wear small watches.

I hadn't realized that :D one thing is for certain, it's an easy to read time piece.
