The reinfoced cases definitely contain more gold than a 10 micron plating. It is more in the range of 25 to 30 percent of the weight.
I had once one watch sold to a scrapper who tested the case for gold content and paid me for solid :-)

I tried contacting Rolex this morning. After calls to the Rolex USA repair center, a couple of AWCI members and the NAWCC library, I conclude information regarding production numbers or styles relating to the Gruen 823/Rolex 500 are not to be found. I've decided to sell but I can't recall what the protocol on this site is regarding sales. I don't want to run afoul of the rules so, if anyone is interested, please just message me. Thank all!
