new Bulova addition

#1 Post by timeliz » Tue Jan 30, 2018 3:59 pm

Recently acquired this unknown beauty.
When I first saw it, I thought it was a Broadcaster.
A closer look told me no, but it sure looks like it could be the mate of the Broadcaster with the same flexible lug & overall design.
It certaintly was never advertised as such that I've ever seen.

Interesting. Also the smaller 17j movement, instead of the 21j 7AP. At least that is the movement in my Broadcaster.

Nice one.

Hi Paleo,
Thanks for the comment!
My Broadcaster also has the 21j 7AP mov.
I will post a "together" shot to show their size difference and style similarities.
Interesting that "She" was never advertised along with the Broadcaster -
or ever advertised at all, as far as I'm aware.

I don't recall seeing one like it before. But with the similar look I may have missed it. I will keep my eyes open.

Here is a side by side comparison -

Lug width on her is 7-8mm so I'd say definitely intended as ladies model.

Similar but still quite a bit different. Good photos by the way.

After a bit more searching over at the Bulova site in the Forum ad section.
I did find a 1938 newspaper advertisement for this model.
It was advertised as a "Kenneth", so I guess this was intended as a mens model.
Still a bit of a head scratcher why the lug width is so narrow.
Could be why not many are seen today...not a big seller?

Cool...always nice to put a name to a model.
