Bulova White Gold Filled - Is It Also Plated?

#1 Post by afire » Sun Apr 16, 2017 7:34 am

I'm curious about Bulova's WGF cases from the 1920s and early 1930s. They almost never exhibit any wear-through/brassing. And they're considerably whiter than typical white gold. It seems to me that something's definitely different about them. Does anybody know if they were also plated with something for additional protection, maybe chrome or rhodium?

I understand that many of Hamilton's white gold fill from a certain era are (I believe rhodium) coated, so it seems quite likely that Bulova would be the same. . . .
