Picked up this really nice 1942 Elgin Deluxe from the 1942 catalogue.
Ever really get excited about a lower end Elgin watch? I did about this one! My hands actually let up tonight and steadied enough so that I could install the high profile glass crystal from Kurt (THANK YOU!). The high profile crystal brought the looks of this watch alive.
The watch polished up with a nice mirror finish. The dial looks great. Might be a redial, but if it is, it is really really good.
The 17 jewel 558 runs like a top.
Also, it came with an expansion band. If you look at the catalogue picture, you can see it on the 5513 next to it. So if the band wasn't offered with the watch specifically, it is correct to the period, and I'm going to venture it was probably offered as OE, if not switched out by the jeweler. It too is in impecabble shape.
I've really come to appreciate the higher end styling on some Elgin Deluxe models, knowing that Elgin also presented them as a cheaper alternative.
