Elgin Touchdowns... show 'em if you've scored 'em ;)

#1 Post by HamiltonIllinois » Tue Mar 06, 2012 1:40 pm

Here is an Elgin not seen every day. It's a Touchdown 229 in a solid 14K case made by Solidarity. This might look a bit similar to another case also made by Solidarity for another maker? Or maybe it's just my imagination...

Re: Elgin Touchdowns... Mermaid/T202

I need to locate or take a better photo, but this is my Touchdown 202 -- better known simply as the Mermaid because of the mermaids and sea horses engraved around the bezel. As a fan of American art deco watches, this is a must-have in any American art deco collection. They're not large, so be warned -- your wife WILL claim it as her own if you're not careful! ;)

Rick, do they have those funky little 18/0 rectangular movements?

They both use a round 15 jewel grade 444 movement. This is the somewhat small but rather robust high-grade movement that was also used in the VERY desirable enamel-bezel Piping Rock-ish Presentation 212/213 and also the Presentation 210.

Rick

They both have super dials. I have owned a few of the Mermaid ones over the years but never with a dial like the one on yours. It is quite spectacular.

Thanks
