New Book on Elgin Wristwatches Now Available!

#1 Post by brtime » Mon Oct 08, 2018 1:55 pm

Twelve years in the making, and it's finally here! Elgin Wristwatches: A Collector's Guide is 139 pages and nearly 900 images of exclusively Elgin wristwatches, covering a period of nearly 50 years. From race car driver "Wild Bill" Endicott who wore an Elgin wristwatch in the 1913 Indianapolis 500, to the "Skindiver" model of 1962, this book shows the great evolution of the man's watch from the pocket to the wrist.
The heart of the book consists of Elgin's annual jeweler catalogs from 1929 to 1942 which featured every factory wristwatch, along with its model number, case composition, movement type, and suggested retail price. These were procured by author Bruce Shawkey from the estate of the late Roy Ehrhardt, who passed away in 2004. Scanning technology was in its infancy back then, and the cost of small-batch printing was prohibitive, so a waiting game began until the catalogs could be made into quality books at a reasonable price.
That time is now! For a limited time, I am making this fantastic reference book available at just $25.46, a 15% savings off the retail of $29.95, plus a small shipping fee. This special price will be available through October 14. From there, the book will be listed on and my website at the full retail of $29.95 plus the shipping charge. To order your copy, go to the following web page:

I would like to thank the many members of this forum who helped with the project. I will be the first to admit that this book is far from all-inclusive. Many a historian has been stopped in his tracks from producing an Elgin identification guide due to the sheer number of different models that Elgin produced from 1913 to about 1965 when the factory in Elgin, Ill., closed and the brand name was sold off to an importer. But this book represents an important start. It shows most of the models produced during Elgin's "golden era" when the company ruled the domestic watch market in America. Elgin watches were offered for sale in more stores nationwide than any other brand.

Thanks to many of you for your encouragement and support on this project!

Excited to see the book. Do we need a special promo code to get the discounted price?
