Just in: 1954 Lord Elgin Drake

I got really lucky with this one. Got it cheap, though the blurry pictures meant that it was a crapshoot. It came with half of a crystal, but amazingly, the dial was immaculate (at least for 64 year old watch). The hour markers were black though. I polished them all, but in the process, two of these tiny things came loose from the dial and bounced off the table. It took an hour on my knees with a magnifying glass to find them! There might have been several words and phrases unbecoming a horologist that were used during the search as well  :P

Once I glued them back into place, the case just needed some polishing and cleaning. Imho, the lugs and bezeled crystal make this another sharp design from the 50s.

Here's the correct crystal:

Despite the photo here, its just a shadow, and not brassing on the lower left lug:

Looking good. I love a good gamble on bad photos. I wish more people would use Google Earth to shoot photos of their watches.

Nice Drake! Great to get that textured dial in good condition, too.

Yeah, the faceted crystal really makes that one, doesn't it?
