Kind of a cool little Elgin De Luxe

#1 Post by grumpyguy » Thu Oct 18, 2018 3:43 pm

Case number 5527. Uses the 17 jewel 672, which dates it from 1950 t0 1952. I found a black replacement dial for it. I think that is what makes it.

Those lugs look a lot like the Dundee which had a special band that fit over and covered their upturned ends. Joel

Yes, that one came with it's own band, with special endpieces that cover those little lugs.

GG has one. It's called the Spencer.

This is kinda funny - Grumpy appears to have forgotten he had one of these, and knew the name, only a short while ago. Every so often I look through my watches - especially the "To Be Serviced" drawer - and say, "Oh, yeah! I have one of those!" I'd forgotten that I picked up a second Black Knight, for example.

Oh,man, Joel - you're right! Oops! And the Spencer band wouldn't fit the Dundee's look at all.

Apologies to GG for suggesting forgetfulness!

Going back and looking at Grumpy's Spencer, I can't think how I didn't see how different this Dundee is. Ah, well.
