Incoming 1932 Campus 936

#1 Post by inatime » Wed Jan 11, 2017 7:56 pm

A watchmaker friend, who's been now retired for 18 months, provided me an opportunity to "rummage" through boxes as he packed up his shop. I bought a number of things but he also kindly gave me countless watches, straps, parts, and tools including this 1932 Elgin. I'm only really beginning to discover all that he gave me.

The enamel has stood the time (the dial not some much) and the beveled bezel is very nice.

I realized I ordered and received a new crystal probably shortly after receiving the watch thinking I would work on it right away; both the watch and crystal have been sitting in a bench drawer all this time though. Maybe my next project watch?

Fortunate you to have a friend like that!

I really like the Campus 936 -- the engraving pattern is beautiful, and it's a great project watch for sure!

P.S. I'm glad to see that you and others are finding the catalog pages from mrtoad and me useful.

I like the model as well, and yes, my friend is very generous. A special thanks to you and mrtoad for sharing the catalog pages they are a great resource for identifying watches and finding out a bit about them.

Those are nice looking watches. I once had a NOS case for this model years ago and managed to cobble together the right dial and movement combo. With it I also got NOS 940 and 942 cases. I think stuff like that was much more common 10-15 years ago.
Real men wear small watches.

One of many shoe boxes I received from my friend and the one I found the Elgin in. Found this Bulova in another box (the dial I had refinished).

Have not been able to ID the Bulova. Queried on other forums without success. No ads, catalogs or the like to help; no matches yet.

It's a nice sized watch giving a great wrist presence; takes a 20mm strap. Generally gets some wrist time when I'm in a suit and tie.

Worked on the Elgin today and tried a bit of cleaning on the dial but it's far gone.
