Hello all,

I came across a watch I've never seen before, and can't seem to find any information on it. I'm wondering if anyone know's about it or has seen one before. It's got a very unusual rolled gold plated case that swings back and forth, and a nice early dial with the sub seconds hand on the left. Unfortunately the band is completely busted up but that can be replaced, and the dial has seen better days. The RGP case is actually in great condition it's just tarnished. It's not currently working and missing the crown but it would definitely be a nice project for someone. Sidney seems to make some pretty collectible old watches, would this be one of them?

Most interesting design! No, I haven’t seen it before, but maybe you don’t know yet the Patent No. 2,229,978 of Herbert I. Kolberg, Mount Vernon, N.Y.:

The case bears the mark of Pioneer Watch Case Co., Inc., Mount Vernon, N.Y. – so I assume, Herbert was an employee of Pioneer.

This style of case (and some variations of it) is often referred to as "horseshoe" and was used by several watch companies.

Here, for example, is a listing for a Clinton "horseshoe" watch on eBay:
