Kool CBS 5pm watch?

#1 Post by Laney55 » Tue Feb 07, 2017 11:04 am

I have this vintage watch but I can't find any history about it. The face says Kool with CBS under it. It's 5pm all the time. 10k RGP with a Kreisler RGP band.

Does anyone know anything about it? Thanks!

There is/was a television station out of Dallas/ Fort Worth that's call letters were/are KOOL CBS. I'd say you have a promotional watch, probably for their 5 o'clock news?

Check out this link...........https://www.smecc.org/kool-tv.htm
This story might be more accurate based on the age of the watch and the story which would indicate Phoenix Az.

All guesswork without more research.

Can you post movement and case back inside/outside pictures?

Thanks Watchdoc! Here's a pic of the back. Sorry, I'm new at all this, how do I remove the back? Do I need a special tool?

Sometimes a butter knife will work, or a pocket knife. The back just snaps on/off. Look for a small protrusion or divot on the case back usually near one of the lugs or dead center on the short side.

Could be a drinking watch "it's 5 O'clock somewhere."

Hi Laney, that is an Elgin model 9511 called the Caldwell and should have a grade 712 movement inside. It was likely made in the late 50's. That little watch represents quite a piece of history. Joel
