Rolex Men's Watch Information

#1 Post by RM47@watcol » Sun Mar 20, 2016 5:07 pm

Requesting information on a Rolex Men's Watch I have for our grandchildren.

Inside watch: Rolex - 17 jewels - wind-up Swiss Patented Super Balance Row
Rolex Oyster 796569 6020
Inside Back: Montres Rolex SA - Geneva Swiss 6020
Has a Spidel Band

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

What you have is an early '50s Speedking, with a refinished dial and aftermarket bracelet. The ref. 6020 originally was fitted with the Super Oyster crown, but many were later converted to the typical screw down Oyster crown, as yours was. The lugs also look somewhat heavily polished and the hour/minute hands appear to be aftermarket replacements.

Here is mine (with different type of dial, but that's what an original looks like, with Speedking and correct fonts and "SWISS" at bottom):

I have sold similar for 800-1000. The dial may hurt it a little but you never know. Love the Speidel band. Not typical for a rolex but why not.

Well, to give you an idea, I bought my pristine original example for about 750. Perhaps I got a steal, but probably not, from my experience. The redial and aftermarket hands do hurt a lot, I'm afraid, probably devaluing it by up to 50%. It's not a particularly valuable watch to begin with. Case condition is also an issue.

So basically it has little value to a collector. A dealer will not give you much either, given the problems. You can try eBay with a no-reserve auction to get an idea of its value.
