Hello,

This has been offered for sale as a genuine watch. The seller claims that only the watch winding key has been changed with a genuine one but lighter color.

The watch is supposed to be a Omega Geneve automatic 24 jewels, cal. 562. Asking for a price of € 365.

Is this something I could get scammed?

Many thanks!

I believe that this watch is a put-together or frankenwatch, made up of genuine Omega parts that belonged to at least two other watches.

The case reference of 162.009 belongs to another Geneve model, just not one with a newer style dial:

The case is in pretty rough shape as well. Looks like the gold plating is gone around the lugs, likely from rubbing against one of those Twist-O-Flex type bracelets.

I don't think it's a very good deal for you.

I would say that the price at which it is being offered is quite high, for it's condition & for what it likely is.

You can get automatic Omega Seamasters (and similar models), not just gold-plated, but gold-capped (so, higher intrinsic value even just accounting for value of the gold itself) for anywhere from about US$250 to about US$350 around here where I am. The price range depends upon specific model & condition (some are re-dialed, some have the earlier generations of bumper automatic movements,...). But of about the same generation of yours with a cal. 56x family movement ... I wouldn't pay the 360 some Euros (never even 360 Dollars  ) for that one you show.

Omegas are not so rare that you can't do a lot better for your money!

Many thanks, guys! Always in debt to this wonderful community!

Re similar watches, a good and reliable source? Somewhere to buy one, w/out being ripped off?

Again, many many thanks!

"Re similar watches, a good and reliable source? Somewhere to buy one, w/out being ripped off?"

Well, that's going to depend on where you are and where you are comfortable buying from ...

I live in the Philippines & only buy within this country (because of the ridiculous import duties, taxes, and corruption within the Customs bureau). I've bought (various brands, but I'll limit this to Omega for you) from both local (Philippine) eBay dealers and members of FaceBook watch groups. I've had pretty good luck with it ... BUT: I do a lot of research & keep track of prices of various models along with the condition of the piece that sold (I have a "database" of sales going back for years & keep pictures of the watches I list as well).

So, without knowing where you live, it's hard to recommend anything more specific than that.
