Masonic Dials

#1 Post by GJH » Thu Dec 15, 2016 11:53 am

Here are a few fun ones from the Collection.

There are only a couple of known Masonic Illinois Dials that I know of,
and here are some for your viewing pleasure...

Thanks, Greg -- enjoyed getting to see these!

(Speaking of Illinois dials in general: rumor has it that Fred has found LOTS of new information about them and it will be in his forthcoming new book! I hope the publisher won't hold us in suspense too much longer . . .)

These are neat... are they factory original dials?

Given what we know about Greg's collecting habits, it's more than likely that these are original dials. (I'm sure he can provide more details when he checks by here.) As Fred Friedberg points out in his first Illinois book (p. 63), "The company was known to produce special order or custom dials in production numbers as low as two," incuding "printed jewelry store names, Masonic symbols, stars and other special features."

Seems like the dials would have been special order from the factory or sent out blank for custom work after purchased. I like the dial setup on the Beau Brummel. Find it striking how they incorporated their name onto the dial. Nice set of watches you have there!
