Wow, Illinois were pretty affordable watches. Even the solid gold ones weren't very expensive compared to other makers.

Great ad!! Should we assume that the markings next to the Manhattan listing were to point out a type-o? The ad shows to white gold-filled versions, when one may have been for yellow gold-filled version.

It also might explain why some of the similarly-priced watches are so relatively rare, and less expensive watches like the Ritz and Chieftain are comparitively common. Interestingly, Consuls sold for much more a few years earlier before the Depression hit. And with 19 or 21 jewel movements they were quite a bit more. Actually, of the Consuls I have tracked very few have 17 jewel movements.

2/9/15 Correction:
LOL, I just replaced the word "were" with "few"... I am a lousy typist! LOL

Where would you like them shipped? I'll need to confirm prices, but it'll likely be about $45-$50K... a bit more if you want to include one in green and a 2-tone.

I know this sounds crazy, but has anyone ever seen an original metal band
shown on that Manhattan (New Yorker) :?:

You mean that MANHATTAN with the metal band? Actually, I might have seen one. When I was a new collector, I would throw away metal bands...today I just toss them in a box marked UGLY/UNCOMFORTABLE.

If you ever get the urge to go through the UGLY/UNCOMFORTABLE box, keep in mind us poor guys trying to catch up to Jim** in the original bracelet category. There may be some jewels in there.

**not going to happen but there is a simple joy in the chase.

Are the vintage catalogues expensive to buy?
