Replacement part for a New Yorker

#1 Post by Gabe » Thu Jun 07, 2018 10:10 am

The stem on my New Yorker no longer “locks in”. I can wind it and I can set the time, but the stem keeps popping out.

My watch repair guy tried tightening a screw that's supposed to lock the stem in, but he said it’s been worn down.

He said I need either a replacement détente or the whole main plate for a 6/0 size.

1) Does that make sense?

2) Any clue who might have these?

3) Will I have to look for a replacement movement instead?

Thank you very much, in advance, for taking the time to read and respond.

1) yes that could make sense I guess. I'd have thought you'd only need a new main plate if the detente screw had damaged the hole in the plate. Surely more likely the thread on the detente is knackered so won't tighten fully .
2) ebay ( or maybe give Fred a buzz?)
3) Personally, I'd look for a replacement movement...and that way you will have access to other spare parts if needed. Ideally correct year.

Hi, here is a picture of the 6/0 mainplate with part a) screw setting lever and b) setting lever (détente??). The part c) is the piece that catch the stem. If this piece is broken or worn the stem will keep popping out.

I have had the same problem with my 6/0 models

I'm agree with mrcardigan. Show this picture to your watchmaker. If you need the piece b), speak with Fred or buy another movement.

Best regards.

Sadly, the hosting site (beeimg.com) seems to be down for a few days so I have not been able to see your kind reply, Pedro.
