If anyone ever asks me what a Beau Brummel would look like in a modern watch size, I’ll send them this.

In his new book Fred Friedberg has lots of information about these advertising displays -- and some very interesting illustrations.

Now this is freaking awesome! I Like the fact that they made a strap and buckle for it as well. Talk about promoting your business!

I really don't know what to make of all this.

The watch for sale looks like it has the buckle and part of the bands cut off and mounted.

While these are quite rare, is $12k even on planet Earth, considering parts of it are missing.

I don't know the seller and he may be a nice guy, but Something about the description and selling terms is VERY confusing????

***This a very very rare piece. It is a store display that was loaned out to Jewelry Stores by the Illinois Watch co. This is marked #6. I have no idea how many where actually made. It has been completely mechanically restored. By Les Mcalister. There are you tube links. You can also searce Big Tick Sangamo IHC185 on the Internet.
I will not ship the item but I will meet you at St Louis Airport. Where you can take possession.
I DO NOT NEED TO SELL? This came out of my personal collection!!***

If you don't need to sell, why are you selling?
and the price is a little crazy, even for me and that says a LOT.

You have no idea where it was made?
It says it right on the back, Sangamo Electric Company, Springfield, Il.

For the 12K you are asking, take it off that modern wood thing it is on and put in a box and ship it vs. me getting on a plane and flying to MO.
to pick it up and pack it in a suitcase and fly it home???
I wish you luck.

Greg, part of my take on what the seller wrote is that he's prone to typographical errors. In his statement "I have no idea how many where actually made. he's typed "where" instead of "were", and in the comment "You can also searce Big Tick Sangamo IHC185 on the Internet" the word "searce" should instead be "search."

I agree that $12,000 seems an outrageous starting bid, although these clocks are indeed very rare. (Do you have one yet? You seem to have just about everything else Illinois -- in multiple!) I don't have any idea how many still exist, and I've never noticed any for sale on eBay before.

Since the seller says he doesn't need to sell the clock, perhaps he's simply taking an opportunity to show off, knowing that there's a lot of discussion about Fred's soon-to-be-released book.

That is funny B!
I did notice that he is a bit challenged in the spelling department.
Bet you are right, sometimes folks put stuff out on ebay with an outrageous
price to get it out there into the public.
What are the chances of someone meeting him at an airport in MO???
AND handing him 12K... um, zero.

I kind of think that this is what Strickland does. His stuff is up there forever
with prices that baffle the mind. I am sure that every so often, someone
bites on his stuff.

I do have quite a Beau Brummel Treat to show off when Fred's book comes out!
