Lovely, Greg! Beautiful parchment-like effects on some Illinois dials shouldn't be obliterated by refinishing, IMO. (We Illinois folks generally frown at refinishing anyway, unless a dial is REALLY far gone! Of course, it boils down to personal opinion . . .)

Yes that is Patina for sure folks!

Without getting technical, Patina is the natural aging process on dials (and cases too)
caused by time and oxidation... I am sure some folks here can give more detailed input,
but this is very cool stuff (as Magpie so correctly notes, we love it) and is prized by hardcore collectors.
The patterns can be in all kinds of colors and patterns. An original dial is almost always desired over a redial
(to a point, where the dial is too far gone) and a nice patina can bring big bucks.

Keep them coming folks... Cases can also have nice patina.
