Or this one which has just been relisted.....
Which the seller is advertising as having a "beautiful brown shaded face", the irony being that he is using that as a selling feature (when it really isn't!) and in fact I reckon the dial itself looks like it might be ok and just the crystal is knackered. Oh, and he wants $250 even though it's not running either!!!

Somebody refitted the bezel upside down. The spot without radium burn should be at 6:00.

Some bits of me are older than others. As a heating engineer/plumber, I may be 43 in years, but I have the knees of a 70 year old! :) (but more importantly, the childish gutter-level humour of a 10 year old, who is not afraid to take the Mickey out of how old and decrepit I already feel)

Interesting about this dial is that is is probably in great shape like you said.
This is classic "Radium Burn" on the crystal and the dial underneath may be great.
Something to keep in mind when buying a watch.

Well, there's always the possibility that some people tend to transpose letters. (Looks like you picked up an "infection" yourself! ;) ) But another possibility is that they may have "Illini" on their minds, and so that sequence of letters creeps in. The Illinois Watch Company itself had a high-end 12-size (and 13-size) pocket watch called the Illini. And of course there are other types of Illini, such as the University of Illinois athletic teams.

That's why you and I get along B... glad someone got that one!
Interesting, the ones that are spelled wrong are all this way.
That makes sense for "Ilini" to be on the brain.

If not, another possibility is that some millennial is doing this, claiming that
in this particular Illinois model the ILLINI-OS (Operating system) is running inside :D

I think I've now seen 4-5 different examples of this exact same ILLINIOS misspelling. With this in mind, I BET that there were a lot more of them long ago printed from the same plate. I'd LOVE to see the back of these dials to see if it could perhaps be original!

For what it's worth, I own a couple of original India Ink dial drawings that came from the Hamilton dial room -- the hand-drawn original dial designs. Anyway, I was amazed to notice one day that one has a a pretty bad mistake on it... and I'm pretty sure that we saw a dial back on the old WTF that was created with the exact same mistake, likely from this drawing... so I have a feeling that at one point that QC-miss made it through the factory doors. If a Hamilton could have made it through, why not an Illinois? (And, yes, I know these were likely not Illinois-cased watches! LOL)

The font in the Illinois and the weird spacing on the "OIS" part is exactly the same.
These two square dials were printer off the same blank.

Can you imagine if there was a date stamp on the back and these were
from the factory?

Something about the font on the sub area seems "non-factory"
just my gut, but anything is possible.
