I’m really thankful for your hint regarding the “mirror trick”. Meanwhile, I bought a black acrylic plate and I’m quite satisfied with the results:
(This is a Hilton belt watch to be worn on a belt while playing golf – that’s the reason for the golf ball)
The acrylic “mirror” turned out to be ideal for taking pictures of boxes:
