As a newbie I just thought I would suggest that the forum could benefit from a few sticky threads in the beginners forum. Things that cover some of the most basic questions most beginners will have. The Tools thread would be a good one (once it is cleaned up), maybe one on the basics of cleaning and oiling. Yes I know there are a lot os searches you can run that will yeild many many results, but as a newbie I am sometimes overwelmed at the vast spectrum of information on here and how to go about finding it. The threads do not need to favor any one method over another, but it could give basics of the most common methods of cleaning watches and common mistakes to avoid. the same with oiling along with basics of what oils to use and what components to oil and which you should not.

Just and idea.

It's a good idea. I stickied the Tools and Oils threads for now. Perhaps we can find a willing victim to create a post on a basic overhaul tips.

have a look at this site for lots of information -

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Budget_Watch_Collecting

than click this ---Jeweled movement clean and lube

For tools and such I recommend you buy the best you can afford. Either by out right purchase or look for watchmaker estate postings on ebay.

Hmmm, I wonder if we have anyone on the forum [Dan] who has been known to be really helpful [Dan] to us newbies, who might be able to cobble together some of their already posted fine advice [Dan] and compile it into one [Dan] location?
